Adult Art Class Series at the Arts Center: Watercolor Class with Claire Lewis

This class will be fun and instructional to anyone from beginners to practicing watercolorists. We will begin with loosening up techniques to practice the application of watercolor from wet-on-wet application, wet on dry, and dry brush. We will explore resist techniques, textures, and, how to use various brushes. How to choose the type of watercolor paper and weights for your project and tastes. Student artists will learn quick sketches for making stationery and longer processes to create a long project in the 8 weeks. A journal will help artists capture their watercolor experience and create a memory book of their treasured painting.

A classical-crossover group, CELLOVOCI joins internationally renowned cello and vocal duo Branden & James with powerhouse singersongwriter Effie Passero (“American Idol” and Postmodern Jukebox). With “dazzling cello and soaring tenor vocals” (NPR Music) from Branden & James and Ms. Passero’s “insanely powerful voice” (Entertainment Weekly), the trio will perform a tour de-force concert of epic musical collaborations and lighthearted stories. Coinciding with the Carnegie Hall debut in October 2024, the talented performers released their first collaborative album entitled Happy Days! When you witness their concert in Rudder Theatre, you’ll agree with the title song of that album – “Happy Days Are Here Again.”

Join us for the 5th Annual For the Culture Market (4TCM)—a vibrant Black History Month kickoff highlighting local Black entrepreneurs, artists, musicians, and storytellers. Hosted by REACH, this community celebration honors cultural legacy while uplifting the future of the Brazos Valley.

4TCM reflects REACH’s mission by creating a space for cultural expression, empowerment, and connection. It allows REACH graduates and community members to showcase their talents, share their stories, build networks, and access resources that support personal and professional growth—all while celebrating Black excellence.

The event features food trucks, a youth zone, bounce houses, live music, raffles and prizes, free haircuts and hair services, educational resources, and more, making it a fun and meaningful day for families of all ages.

Through partnerships with Operation HOPE, the City of College Station, and the Chamber of Commerce, REACH has helped launch more than 90 Black-owned businesses in just two years—momentum that continues through this market.

Powered by students from TAMU, Bryan ISD, College Station ISD, and our REACH Fellows, 4TCM blends culture, entrepreneurship, leadership, and community pride into one unforgettable event.

Step into a defining moment at the crossroads of history during the Revolutionary War Camp of Induction and Instruction, where an empire’s grip began to loosen, and a nation was born.

Experience what life was like 250 years ago, at a critical stage of the American Revolution when ordinary men and women faced extraordinary choices—remain loyal to King and Country, or risk everything for the radical ideals of freedom and liberty. Explore the realities of military life in a world on the brink of change, from the harsh discipline and professionalism of the British Army to the determined beginnings of a new American fighting force.

Through living history and immersive interpretation, witness the birth of an American army and the clash of ideologies that would shape the future of the United States.

All of this unfolds at the Museum of the American G.I., as we commemorate 250 years of American independence—where history doesn’t just live, it comes to life.

This is an outdoor event and is included with museum admission.

THE SIMON & GARFUNKEL STORY covers the duo’s humble beginnings as Tom & Jerry, to their incredible success as one of the best-selling music groups of the ‘60s, as well as their dramatic split in 1970. The Simon & Garfunkel Story culminates with the pair’s famous “The Concert in Central Park” reunion in 1981 which had more than half a million fans in attendance. The concert event features a set list of nearly 30 songs and uses state-of-the-art video projection, photos and original film footage. A full live band will perform all of the hits including “Mrs. Robinson,” “Cecilia,” “Bridge Over Troubled Water,” “Homeward Bound” and many more complete with the unmistakably perfect harmonies that will transport audiences down memory lane.

During World War II, the battle for victory wasn’t fought only overseas—it was fought at kitchen tables, in grocery lines, and in backyard gardens across America. Join us on February 28 for an engaging talk with Sara Boswell as she explores how everyday Americans adapted to wartime shortages and rationing through creative cooking and the nationwide Victory Garden movement.

This program will examine how ration books worked, which foods were hardest to come by, and how families learned to “make do” while still feeding their households. Learn how Victory Gardens transformed lawns into lifelines, supplying fresh produce and boosting morale on the home front. Along the way, we’ll share period recipes, surprising substitutions, and the powerful connection between food, patriotism, and perseverance.

Whether you’re interested in WWII history, home-front stories, or the ingenuity of ordinary citizens during extraordinary times, this talk offers a fascinating look at how food helped fuel the war effort—and sustain a nation.
