Discovering the Languages of Flowers

Our system for naming plants both defines the plant (Linnaean nomenclature) and gives emotional or social meaning to it (floriography). Using these languages to examine art from the University’s collections can bring a new perspective on art, the importance of language and the tools we use to define the world around us.

Rooted in the Junior Master Gardener Learn, Grow, Eat & Go! curriculum, this experience blends gardening, nutrition, and activity into an unforgettable adventure.
Throughout the camp, participants will:
Learn how plants grow and what they need to thrive through hands-on gardening activities in The Gardens.
Discover the importance of wholesome eating by exploring fruits and vegetables, tasting fresh produce, and making simple garden-inspired snacks.
Participate in fun crafts, activities, and games that will deepen their understanding of how agriculture shows up in our daily lives and promotes an active lifestyle.
Earn their Junior Master Gardener Learn, Grow, Eat, & Go! Certificate!
This half-day camp offers a meaningful opportunity for kids to connect with nature, build healthy habits, and develop a lifelong appreciation for gardening and wellness.

Summer Nature Camp

Studying science and history helps children to know and understand the world around them. The Museum offers your child this opportunity in a safe, fun, and educational setting. For more than two decades, the Starlight Music Series has offered free, family-friendly entertainment under the stars at Wolf Pen Creek Amphitheater (1015 Colgate Drive).
This year’s lineup continues the tradition with three nights of country, classic rock, and Tejano music. Gates open at 6 p.m. and music starts at 7. Bring a picnic, grab a blanket or lawn chair, and enjoy the show. Free parking is available at Post Oak Mall, with accessible parking near Colgate Drive.

Hop, crawl, or slither in to Century Square Cinemas, our free summer movie series happening every third Thursday from June to August under the twinkling lights of The Green at Century Square. We’re kicking off the series with a showing of Zootopia 2! Come early for a special meet and greet with Texas Parks & Wildlife, featuring snakes, turtles, and other critters that help show just how important and friendly these animals really are.
